Terms of service

The agreement, in plain words.

By creating a FirmSum account you agree to these terms. They are short on purpose. If anything here is unclear, write to us at support@firmsum.com before you rely on it.

Last updated September 10, 2026.

What FirmSum does

You send us statements, exports, and receipts for your business. We read them, ask you plain questions where needed, and produce books: a ledger, a Profit & Loss, and a package for your accountant. You can invite an accountant to see and work on the same books.

What FirmSum is not

FirmSum is bookkeeping software. It is not an accountant, a tax preparer, or a law firm, and nothing it produces is tax, legal, or financial advice. You and your accountant are responsible for reviewing the books, checking that every source is included, and filing your taxes correctly. Where a statement does not add up or a transaction is unclear, we will say so rather than guess, and it is your job to resolve it.

Your account

  • You must be 18 or older and using FirmSum for a business you are entitled to keep books for.
  • Keep your sign-in details private. Turn on the second sign-in check. You are responsible for what happens under your account.
  • Only invite people who should see the business’s finances. You can remove them at any time.

Your records

Your records stay yours. You give us permission to store, read, and process them, and to pass the pages that need reading to the services that do that for us, only to provide FirmSum to you. Our privacy policy says who those services are and what they can see.

Do not upload anything you do not have the right to upload, or anything containing someone else’s private information beyond what appears on ordinary business statements.

Accuracy

We work hard to read every line correctly, we check that statements balance, and we show our reasoning. Even so, reading documents is never perfect, and we do not promise that the books will be free of errors. Review them. Change anything that is wrong. Ask your accountant.

Fees

If FirmSum charges for a plan, the price and what it includes are shown before you pay, and you can cancel at any time. Fees already paid are not refunded except where the law requires it.

Ending the agreement

You can close your account at any time from settings or by writing to support@firmsum.com; download your package first. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, is used to attack the service, or has been unpaid for a long time. We will give notice where we reasonably can.

Limits on our liability

To the extent the law allows, FirmSum is provided as is, and we are not liable for indirect losses, lost profits, penalties, or interest arising from the use of the books, and our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

Changes and law

If we change these terms in a way that matters, we will email you first. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, and any dispute will be heard in its courts unless the law where you live requires otherwise.
